- Concert Review: Chris was a guest at a 70th birthday concert in Liverpool for John Mayall on July 19, 2003. Other guests included Mick Taylor and Eric Clapton. The concert was filmed for DVD release later in the year. The John Mayall website has lots of fans' concert reviews and some great photos.
- Blues News, website of the Hamilton Blues Society of New Zealand, includes an archive of articles about the blues. A .pdf reproduction of a 1958 Jazz Journal article about Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee is particularly interesting for its comments on the Barber Band; another article, about Sonny Boy Williamson, also appears on the site. (Thanks to Niklaus Zust for letting me know about these links.)
Other Traditional Jazz Links:
- Fred Burnett's Traditional Jazz Pages: a tribute to the musicians who have dedicated themselves to playing the music of New Orleans and Dixieland in the North West of England. This is a great web resource for the latest news and links to many British traditional jazz bands.
- The Official Climax Jazz Band Site: a terrific Toronto-based band composed mainly of British and European musicians. The band has been playing for more than 32 years; its early sound was very reminiscent of Chris Barber's Jazz Band of the mid-1950s, and fortunately some of the band's first recordings have recently been re-issued on CD. I haven't seen the band in many years, living "out west" and two thousand miles from Toronto, but if they are still as good as they used to be then this is a band not to miss.
