Peter Rudeforth - trumpet, vocals

Replacing Pat Halcox on trumpet and occasional vocals, Peter Rudeforth joined the Big Chris Barber Band on July 23, 2008 for a concert in Macclesfield, Cheshire. Two nights later he played with the band on the opening night of the 30th Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, of which there is a short account elsewhere in the Barber website. Peter is an outstanding trumpeter with a fiery attack that is the perfect foil for co-trumpeter Mike Henry, most notably in the band's current repertoire of Ellington tunes. The following information is taken from Peter's own website:

Peter Rudeforth was born in Aberystwyth, Wales on 20th March 1963. He began playing the trumpet at the age of seven. Whilst in school he developed his interest in many types of music playing for brass bands, orchestras, shows and forming his own jazz band. At the age of sixteen he was in demand as concerto soloist, broadcasting live on radio and television. At this time he also made a commercial recording of a Vivaldi Concerto.

Peter played first trumpet in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and gained his B.Mus degree at Cardiff University and his LRAM at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied with Sidney Ellison and John Wilbraham and won several scholarships and prizes.

He is a founding member of the Albion Brass Consort, who have performed at many music clubs and festivals and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. His various engagements have taken him all over Europe and around the world to Bermuda, Malta, Romania, Abu Dhabi, Senegal, Brazil, Uruguay and the Falkland Islands.

Peter has a passion for jazz and plays around 300 concerts a year. He leads his own band called Pete's Goodtime Jazzband and is a member of many bands and orchestras including the Charleston Chasers, Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, and the Palm Court Theatre Orchestra. He has also worked with many famous bands including Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen, Acker Bilk, George Melly, the Temperance Seven and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra.

Peter Rudeforth decided in August 2019 to follow a new career and we thank very much Peter for his work with the band and his friendship.
