In Barber's Chair
It's always a pleasure when a new CD arrives in the mail, doubly so when it's one by Chris Barber. Imagine how I felt, then, when In Barber's Chair arrived (Ocrober 27, 2003 at noon, to be exact!). This is a CD I had waited for literally for decades: I have owned all of the original EPs for forty years, and many of the tracks have been available individually on one compact disc or another -- but never before as a complete set, and certainly not with this clarity of sound. This fine collection was compiled by Paul Adams of Lake Records, to whom should go many thanks for the work he and his team have put into initiating the "The Record Supervision Collection," a series of CDs from Denis Preston's Lansdowne Jazz Series, originally released in the UK on the Columbia label. In Barber's Chair is the first of the series. As a bonus, Paul has written some entertaining and informative liner notes for the CD, which should be an indispensable part of every Barber fan's collection. Buy it!
