70th Birthday Concert
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers And Friends (Eric Clapton, Chris Barber, Mick Taylor)
CD and DVD available on Eagle Records
Released November 2003

Here's a two-hour, double-CD/single-DVD concert celebration of John Mayall's 70th birthday, recorded and filmed in Liverpool in July, 2003. Mayall and the Bluesbreakers are joined by guests Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, and Chris Barber, about whom Mayall graciously writes in the sleeve notes: "One other soloist came to mind as someone who I believed audiences would be thrilled to see and that was trombonist Chris Barber. I surmised that some of the younger generation of British blues lovers might not have been aware that Chris was one of the pioneers of the movement back in the Fifties when he brought over to England at his own expense some of the greatest American blues stars..."

This is an outstanding concert, great to listen to on CD and equally great to watch on DVD. One of the highlights is an extended version of "Have You Heard", a vehicle for solos by Eric and Chris, among others. At the end of the song, John Mayall shouts, "The blues doesn't get better than that." He's right!
